2019 Spring Program

Dear AU Family,

The 2019 program is up and running! We know many of you are immersed in school soccer, football and cross country, but it’s never too early to plan for the next soccer season!

The “new” Addison United (AU) is now going into its 4th season. We were a small group of parents and coaches who wanted to keep Addison United going, and we felt there was enough commitment to take the program to the next level. We jumped right in and made some dramatic changes to the program to accommodate the ever-growing pool of soccer families in our county – changes that have been very successful, and we want to continue to evolve.  We appreciate feedback from you, our soccer families, and also our local coaches, so we can continue to make adjustments and grow the programs that we currently offer.

I went to my son’s JV game at Mt. Abe (a VUHS rivalry game) and sat with fellow AU parents; I cheered for VUHS and Mt. Abe players because they are AU kids – our kids!  The VUHS parents who didn’t know me, probably thought I was crazy! I watched the Varsity game over my shoulder, cheering on the AU U18 and U16 players, some of which have been in our club since they were U10.  I watched the AU players, on opposing teams, slap each other on the back and cheer each other on.  I realized what a great community we have created along the way.  We’re a family! I hope that you all feel that way and are excited about another great spring season.

That being said, the 2019 program is open for registration. The website is updated and has a full description of what we want to do in 2019 (www.addisonunitedvt.com). The most significant changes are in the U8 and U10 programs where we have the most growth potential.  Additional changes:

  • work to have local teams in Vergennes, Middlebury and Bristol to consolidate groups
  • work with the Vermont Soccer League (VSL) to minimize travel for their games
  • reduced the price of membership

Our Programs for the older groups will remain steady with a slight change in the winter training offerings. For Spring, we will again consider registering teams at the D1 level for U12 and up age groups, where we feel we have a strong core group of committed soccer players. We will hold team assessments in November after the school soccer season, so we can decide on the most suitable division registrations before the VSL deadlines.

As volunteers, we appreciate all the feedback and support we’ve received over the past three seasons.  We are excited to provide this soccer opportunity to our area youth. But we need your help! Please consider becoming a board member or volunteer to help us accomplish everything we want to do. Our annual meeting will be held September 12th, at the VUHS Library at 6:30 pm. As always, board meetings are open to all, and we welcome your support.

Thank you for all your support.

Jen Wyman, President, Board of Directors
